Thursday Night Butoh Class

Thursday March 12th is the first of a 5-month butoh training quarter offered by DAIPAN. Full participation in the full series is encouraged, but drop-Ins are understandable and equally welcomed. Sheri Brown & guests will lead study, exercises and explorations in that enigmatic, originally-Japanese-now-global dance theatre form, “butoh,” encompassing a diverse range of activities, techniques and motivations for dance, performance, or movement.
Embodying The Spirit: Butoh training with Joan Laage (Kogut Butoh)
This workshop explores endless questions: What is life? What is the human condition? What is the body? The structure includes exercises and exploration of physical body, elemental body, and ethereal body. The workshop draws from Joan’s training with Kazuo Ohno and Yoko Ashikawa and her background as a Tai Chi practitioner and gardener.

Alexander Riding and Vanessa Skantze will conduct a Movement Class focusing on Butoh, Guided Imagery, and Mind/Body Integration Games … the themes 1. to research our inner/hidden story … 2. to expose/perform this inner story, and 3. to enhance, expand and focus our storytelling techniques.
